Biography

Dr Marylou Dryer is a pediatric cardiologist who has been a part of the Norton Children’s Heart Institute since 2020. A native of Midland, Michigan, Dr Dryer now calls Mt Washington, Kentucky home where she lives with her husband and children.

After graduating from the Honor’s College at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, she went on to receive her Doctorate in Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. Having commissioned as an officer through the Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program, Dr Dryer’s medical education continued with an internship in Internal Medicine at the Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, Naval Medical Center San Diego. As a General Medical Officer, she then worked in family medicine at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington state before transitioning to serve and deploy with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 before separating from active duty service. An administrative fellowship in quality and patient safety followed before resuming medical education as a combined Med-Peds resident through Christiana Care in Delaware. Then, the last step in her training was a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at University of Rochester in New York.

Working with children with congenital heart disease and their families is something that Dr Dryer finds rewarding. She enjoys a balance between caring for outpatients as well as inpatients including newborns in the NICU, post-operative patients in the CICU, and she has a focus on non-invasive imaging including echocardiography to guide care during procedures and surgeries. Dr Dryer is also a physician lead for the Turner and Noonan Syndromes Multidisciplinary clinic providing preventive care for these children at higher risk of heart disease.
