Biography

Malavika Prasad, M.D., joined Norton Children’s in August 2020 as a pediatric nephrologist. In addition to her clinical role, she is an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

She has special interest in dialysis, IgA Nephropathy, kidney implications in stem cell transplant patients, HUS and Thrombotic microangiopathy, and Steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome. She has received esteemed mentorship in the field of acute care nephrology and is well versed in the various acute care modalities such as CRRT, carpediem, aquapheresis, liposorber and plasmapheresis.

During her medical training, she earned multiple awards. In 2016, Dr. Prasad was the recipient of the best overall research award (with a successful completion of a review article, 2 QI studies, 2 case reports, published a retrospective and a grant approved prospective study). Her fellowship scholarly project at Columbia University was investigating kidney diseases and complications in pediatric patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. In 2019, she received ASPN fellow research presentation award. 

Dr. Prasad views nephrology as an opportunity to to help acute conditions with renal recovery and improve the outcomes of chronic conditions for children with kidney problems.  She has a passion helping families through the complexities of the pediatric renal world including chronic care, medications, dialysis and renal transplantation. She has received patient awards including patients top choice and patients recommend acknowledgement for pediatric nephrology physicians on US News Health. 

Dr. Prasad is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics and pediatric nephrology. She is a member of multiple national and international organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, National Kidney Foundation, and the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology. 

When not with her patients, she excitedly spends time with her daughter. Dr. Prasad enjoys hiking, painting and travelling.
