Biography

Jennifer Bay-Williams is a professor in mathematics education in the Department of Elementary, Middle and Secondary Education. She has authored over 40 books and 100 journal articles/book chapters that focus on making mathematics meaningful to all students. Recent books and articles have focused specifically on procedural fluency and developing mathematical proficiency, including a seven-book series titled Figuring Out Fluency and Math Fact Fluency. Several of her books have been translated into other languages. She is an international leader in the field of mathematics education, frequently speaking at state, national, and international conferences and serving on national boards. 

Research Interests

Jennifer has focused her research on effective mathematics teaching, including:

Developing fluency with basic facts and with procedures beyond basic facts.

Exploring the impact of mathematics curriculum on teaching and learning.

Investigating the impact of mathematics instruction on student learning and dispositions.
