Biography

Dr. Greg Byrne is Distinguished Professor of Music at the University of Louisville.  Byrne is the recipient of the Kentucky Music Educators Association’s “Teacher of the Year” award and was featured as a University of Louisville Top Ten Faculty Favorite. Dr. Byrne is an Educational Artist for REMO Inc. and VIC FIRTH, Inc.. He serves as an advocate for musicians with disabilities and is portrayed by actor Judge Reinhold in the movie I Am Potential, based on the book by Patrick Henry Hughes. The University of Louisville Percussion Ensemble recorded the CD Nazca Lines (Centaur Label), featuring the percussion music of colleague Marc Satterwhite. Byrne is a member of the group Chance Designs with colleagues John Ritz and Gabe Evens. Their music can be heard on the CD Cycles of Formation (Ravello Records). The group has performed at several society of Electro-Acoustic Music conferences, the MOXsonic conference and the EMS60 Experimental Festival. Their most recent project is through Innova label, with Hip Hop artist, Jecorey “1200” Arthur, which stems from their debut performance at the Percussive Arts Society International Conference.
