Research Interests

My research is centered around naturally ocurring antimicrobial peptides and their role in defense against infection. My current research projects involve:

  • Studying the potential for using vitamin D to enhance our natural defense against infection, including periodontal disease
  • Understanding the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 in the oral cavity and how we can defend against its infection there
  • Developing novel antimicrobial agents based on antimicrobial peptides, for use as new therapeutic drugs
