Biography

Frank Kelderman specializes in Indigenous studies, transnational American studies, and nineteenth-century American literature. His first book is Authorized Agents: Publication and Diplomacy in the Era of Indian Removal (SUNY Press, 2019), which explores the relation between Native American writing and diplomacy in the nineteenth century, from the Missouri River Valley to the Great Lakes. His scholarship has appeared in journals including American Quarterly, MELUS, J19, Journal of Transnational American Studies, Great Plains Quarterly, American Studies, and Studies in American Indian Literatures. He is currently working on his second book, about the translation of Native American authors in the context of global anticolonial writing. At the University of Louisville, Dr. Kelderman teaches a range of courses in Indigenous studies and American literature.
