Biography
Dr. David W. Powell is a Tenured Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, and Microbiology and Immunology in the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is also the Director of Immunologic Kidney Disease Research Laboratories in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. He has developed a proteomic, molecular and cell biology, and animal pathophysiology-based program to define molecular mechanisms, diagnostic markers, genetic risks, and therapeutic targets for autoimmune-mediated kidney disease. These studies have been supported by the NIH since 2007 and highlighted by identification of target antigens for membranous nephropathy and lupus nephritis and cellular and molecular mediators and urine and serum activity markers of Lupus nephritis.
Research Interests
The current focus of his research is use of state-of-the-art genomic, proteomic, and immunephenotyping approaches to define mechanisms of neutrophil activity in lupus nephritis.
