Biography

Dr. Bennett is the Cobb Family Chair in Entrepreneurship at the University of Louisville College of Business, where he also serves as Director of the Entrepreneurship PhD Program and Associate Director of the Center for Free Enterprise. He is passionate about developing the next generation of scholars and advancing understanding of how institutions shape entrepreneurship around the world.

Research Interests

Dr. Bennett's research examines how institutions, public policies, and other external factors influence entrepreneurial and innovation outcomes across multiple levels of analysis, from individuals and ventures to regions and nations. He combines strong conceptual skills in theory development with rigorous quantitative methods to generate insights that are both academically rigorous and practically relevant, showing how environmental conditions create incentives, shape entrepreneurial behavior, and under what conditions these mechanisms operate. His research has been published in leading outlets, including FT50 journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Research Policy, and the Journal of International Business Studies. He has also published numerous book chapters, policy reports, and essays in the popular press. His work has received more than 1,800 citations, and he is ranked among the top 1 percent of entrepreneurship scholars worldwide over the past five years by Scholar GPS.
