Biography

Dr. Seals is a native of Kentucky who earned his PhD in Educational Psychology at Michigan State University (MSU), where he began to study pedagogy and motivation with an emphasis on the educator of diverse student populations. Upon graduating with his doctoral degree, he joined the faculty at the University of Illinois (UIUC) where he served as a tenure track Assistant Professor and the Coordinator of Curriculum and Assessment for UIUC’s College of Veterinary Medicine. At UIUC he also led faculty efforts to strengthen their pedagogical practices as veterinary medical educators. This led him to his current role at the University of Louisville School of Medicine (ULSOM) where he is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs. His current research agenda is the same but his responsibilities in Faculty Affairs include providing leadership and oversight with faculty programs and initiatives supporting positive faculty climate, faculty wellness, and recruitment and retention of faculty from all backgrounds to the School of Medicine. Dr. Seals puts a lot of time and effort into studying and supporting the needs of scientists, physicians, instructors and researchers in the medical field and he is most passionate about creating ways to best support and recruit physicians and medical researchers from marginalized backgrounds.  Dr. Seals also has expertise in assessment, evaluation, and the needs of diverse learning populations. Lastly, Dr. Seals is a man of faith and is the proud father of two beautiful daughters.
