Biography

Professor Christopher M. Kozoll joined Brandeis Law in Fall 2024 as Director of the Immigration Clinic and Assistant Professor of Law. He brings nearly two decades of experience in immigration law practice, judicial service and public interest advocacy to his role leading one of the school’s experiential learning clinics.

Before joining the faculty, Professor Kozoll served as an Immigration Judge with the U.S. Department of Justice in Memphis, Tennessee, where he adjudicated hundreds of asylum and removal cases. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he was senior partner at Kozoll & Associates Immigration Law in Louisville, representing clients in complex matters including asylum, human trafficking, Convention Against Torture claims and employment-based immigration. His experience also includes federal litigation and published appellate decisions across multiple circuits. He previously taught as an adjunct professor at Brandeis Law, presented at American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) conferences and served on the AILA Annual Conference Committee.

Professor Kozoll’s research interests include the intersection of human rights and immigration law, the role of narrative in removal defense and the ethics of representation in high-stakes immigration proceedings. He has authored numerous continuing legal education presentations and contributed to Immigration Practice Pointers and other practitioner resources. His publications address topics such as crimmigration, naturalization strategy and procedural defenses in removal cases.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law, where he was articles editor of the Colorado Journal of International Environmental Law and Policy. He also holds a master’s degree in philosophy from Gonzaga University and a bachelor’s degree in government and international relations from the University of Notre Dame. He is fluent in Spanish and licensed to practice in Colorado and Kentucky, with admissions to multiple federal district and circuit courts.
