Biography
Dr. Johnsrude is Professor of Pediatrics (University of Louisville) and director of the Pediatric and Adult Congenital Heart Disease Electrophysiology Program. He completed pediatrics residency at Cincinnati Children’s, then pediatric cardiology and electrophysiology fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine. In 2002, he was recruited from the Feinberg School of Medicine (Northwestern University) where he directed the cardiac implantable electronic device and pediatric cardiology fellowship training programs. After arriving in Louisville, he also served as adjunct Associate Professor at University of Kentucky School of Medicine.
Since his recruitment, Dr. Johnsrude has collaborated with adult and pediatric colleagues statewide to establish a comprehensive EP program for children and adults with congenital heart disease. He has actively sought innovative techniques and technologies to treat patients and advance the field. He served as chief of the division of Pediatric Cardiology and co-director of the Heart Center at Norton Children’s Hospital 2008-2017, and as visiting professor, invited lecturer, and moderator at regional and national scientific sessions. He has been active in local, national and international clinical research projects, authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, and co-authored a book on interpretation of pediatric electrocardiograms. Dr. Johnsrude has also been committed to healthcare quality initiatives and education of patients, nurses, and medical students, and mentoring residents, fellows and junior faculty. He has received numerous awards for teaching and The Honorable Maestro award from the Kentucky chapter of American College of Cardiology in 2025.
