Biography

Carlo Vincetti Frizzo is a composer/conductor and a graduate of Indiana University, where he
holds doctorate degrees in choral conducting and composition. He is a winner of The American
Prize in Pops/Light category as well as a finalist with Honorable Mention in Choral Composition
category. Frizzo has also won the MTNA National Student Composition Competition, NOTUS
Choral Composition Contest, and the C4 Commissioning Competition. A composition fellow at
the Big Sky Choral Initiative, his music was premiered by Donald Nally and members of The
Crossing. With a love for lyricism and drama, Frizzo looks to create music that embodies the colors
and gestures of 19th- and early 20th-century European repertoire as well as the unique aesthetics of
American music. Self-taught banjoist, Frizzo’s music alludes to the many varied and beautiful
sounds of the United States, including folk, sacred harp, spirituals, jazz, classical, or film music.

As a strong advocate of new music, Mr. Frizzo has assisted, organized, and promoted concerts of
new works by contemporary composers. During his doctoral studies, he was the associate
conductor for NOTUS: Indiana University Contemporary Vocal Ensemble. Mr. Frizzo was also a
conductor for Double Exposure, a program between IU composers and film students, and was the
music director of New Voices Opera, an opera company focused on the creation and production
of new operas. His music has been played nationally and abroad, including ensembles such as
Chamber Project St. Louis, C4, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Frizzo also holds a BA degree in Keyboard Studies and French from Murray State University.
He completed his MM degree at Louisiana State University, where he studied composition under
Dinos Constantinides and electro-acoustic composition under Stephen David Beck. He also
studied privately with David Stock at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. He was on the theory
and composition faculty at Sam Houston State University and currently teaches music theory at
the University of Louisville School of Music. He also is the Director of Music Ministry at Highland
Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY.
