Biography

Barry Johnson serves as a Lecturer in the School of Music.  Dr. Johnson previously served as Director of Bands and arranger at at several universities.  Additionally, Dr. Johnson taught Composition, Music Theory, and many auxilliary courses in the discipline.  At Kentucky State, Dr. Johnson created the Recording Arts degree (2012), wrote the Music Degreee track for Simmons College of Kentucky (2016), while creating support coiurses for both institutions.  

Previously, Dr. Johnson served as a drill writer and adjudicator of many High School Bands and Festivals.  He continues to serve as guest artist, revivalist, and arranger, (both choral and instrumental) for various churches.  Moreover, he has amassed a large a large volume of gospel arrangements.  Dr. Johnson has commentaries and music published by the R.H. Boyd Corporation.  As the owner of TNT Recording Studios, Dr. Johnson continues to retain a pulse of the contemporary and commercial music scene.

Dr. Johnson has received many acolades such as the Les McCann Award (University of Kentucky), the School of Music Alumni Fellow (2012), induction into the duPont Manual Hall of Fame, and the Distinguished Honorary Award (Kentucky State).  Dr. Johnson is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Phi Mu Alpha (Sinfonia) fraterities.
