Biography

My research focused on defining the transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms that regulated expression the cholesterol transporter STARD1 in response to tropic hormone activation of steroidogenesis in the adrenal and testis.  My work expanded to studying other family members, STARD4 and STARD5, to help define their role in cholesterol and bile acid homeostasis in normal and disease states; e.g. diabetic nephropathy, MAFLD, and cancer.  I value my long-standing collaborators.  My administrative roles have all focused on trainees.  Working with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to help enhance their career development and experiences is a highlight of my career.
