Biography

Alexander V. Ovechkin received MD and PhD degrees from Perm State Medical Academy and has maintained the affiliation with the Academy, combining his clinical and research duties. In 1999, he joined the University of Louisville, Department of Physiology & Biophysics as a Research Associate working on projects that examined the regulation of pulmonary and cardiovascular functions in lung ischemia and heart failure. While working on these projects, he completed a graduate program in Physiology and received his second PhD degree. In 2006, he joined the Neuroscience Collaborative Center, a program within the University of Louisville Department of Neurosurgery, as a faculty member to develop and lead a new Human Electrophysiological Laboratory of the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center. His current interests include the development and implementation of physiologically based methods to evaluate motor, autonomic, and cardiovascular functions for use in clinical research and practice for spinal cord injury and other disorders by examining their pathophysiology, recovery mechanisms, and effects of novel rehabilitative approaches.
