Welcome to UofL – We're Excited You're Here!
Your first day is just the beginning, and we’re here to make it a great one. You’ll spend Day 1 at New Employee Orientation, where you’ll get the tools, connections, and insights to start strong. On this page, you’ll find everything you need to prepare - from what to expect at orientation to helpful tips for navigating campus and settling into your new role.
Held in person each Monday*, you have the opportunity to meet other new employees, get an overview of the university’s culture, structure and points of pride, as well as a run-down of all the details to get you started including benefits, payroll, parking and so on.
All the Details
* If Monday is a holiday, orientation will be held on Tuesday. If you haven’t received a confirmation email and think you should attend, contact Human Resources at employ@louisville.edu.
Preparing for Orientation Day
We will help you take care of getting most things done at orientation, but there are some things you can do to prepare.
1
Activate Workday account
You should receive a Welcome email from Workday to activate your new employee account, including instructions to complete critical onboarding tasks.
-
Activate your account using the Identity Management Portal link to obtain your UofL userID and set up a password.
-
You will need your seven-digit employee ID number for this step. If you do not know your ID number, please call or email HR Services at 502-852-6258 or hrservices@louisville.edu.
2
Bring your necessary documents
Visit HR Services in-person on orientation day to complete your I-9 Verification.
- If you are completing virtual orientation, employment verification must be completed in-person at HR Services (MITC Building) within 3 days of your hire date.
- Review and bring acceptable identification documents.
3
Check out your benefits!
You will be able to make your benefits elections in Workday 2–3 days after your start date, and elections must be made within 30 days.
-
Make time to review the 2026 Benefits Guide and watch the Benefits Overview Video.
-
If you have any questions and would like to speak to a benefits specialist, please contact benefits@louisville.edu.
