Parental Involvement and FERPA

We understand that this is an exciting time in students’ lives and that parents want to ensure the best experience possible for their children. However, we are limited in the scope of information we are permitted to share with parents regarding our students due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974. When submitting the housing application, students sign a license agreement which acts as a legally binding agreement between the student and University Housing. This means that our office is unable to disclose private information about the student with any third party, including parents.
