CONGRATS are in order for Derek Kesler who is a recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.
Derek plans on studying abroad In Luneburg, Germany with USAC this fall.
When asked what made him choose to study abroad, Derek said, "To understand and embrace cultures different from my own. To see that there Is far more to society than what Is in Kentucky and the United States. Study abroad opens us up to a whole new world of experiences and life lessons."
For students feeling intimidated by study abroad or applying to the Gilman Scholarship, Derek offers words of wisdom.
"Uprooting yourself to live In a country thousands of miles away from everything you know IS a daunting task. But taking the leap Is a monumental step towards changing your life for the better, especially if you're a first generation student like me. Do NOT let your personal fears or anxieties hold you back from what could be your greatest opportunity."
