Sara Bufferd, Ph.D. (she/her) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville. Previously, Dr. Bufferd was Associate Professor of Psychology at California State University San Marcos. Dr Bufferd’s research focuses on the assessment and predictors of early-emerging psychopathology and characterizing the spectrum of normative to pathological emotional development in early childhood relevant to risk for anxiety and mood dysregulation. Please visit our lab website (www.UofLCAMlab.com) for more information.
I will not be reviewing graduate student applications in the current application cycle for admission for the 2023-2024 academic year.
I do not currently have any openings for research assistant (RA) positions in my lab. Updates will be posted here: https://www.uoflcamlab.com/prospective-research-assistants

Research Interests
- Assessment of psychopathology and temperament in young children
- Individual, familial, and contextual correlates and predictors of child anxiety and mood dysregulation
- Characterizing the spectrum of early-emerging internalizing behavior
My research interests lie within a developmental psychopathology framework. I investigate factors that contribute to the onset and course of emotional and behavioral problems in young children, including temperament, psychosocial functioning, stressors, parenting behavior, and physiology. I am particularly interested in mapping the spectrum of normative to pathological psychological development of anxiety and mood dysregulation in preschool-aged children. Measures used in the lab include daily diaries, diagnostic interviews, structured laboratory observations with children and parents, psychophysiological assessment, and parent- and teacher-report questionnaires. We will also be starting a new project soon using sleep actigraphy. Please see here for more information.
