J.T. Ling, M.D. Endowed Chair in Radiology

This endowed chair was created with a gift from the late Robert Ling in honor of his father J.T. Ling, M.D. former Chair of the Department of Radiology.
J.T. (Ji-toong) Ling, M.D. was born in Shanghai, China and earned his medical degree at St. John’s University in Shanghai. He immigrated to the United States in 1947. In addition to a radiology residency in China, Dr. Ling completed radiology residency at De Paul Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. He also had fellowships in Pediatric Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and earned a M.Sc. at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Ling began his 36 year career at the University of Louisville School of Medicine as an Instructor in Radiology in 1953. He was appointed Professor and Chair of the department in 1963 and served as Chair until 1979. After retiring in 1989, Dr. Ling continued to teach in the department by giving lectures as Professor Emeritus for more than 10 years.
