Tracy D. Eells, Ph.D., MBA is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Eells holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and bachelor’s degrees in political science from the University of California, Riverside and psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. In 2001, he received an M.B.A. with a concentration in Health Care Administration from the University of Louisville College of Business and Public Administration. He was a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation funded post-doctoral fellow at the Program on Conscious and Unconscious Mental Processes of the University of California, San Francisco.

Research and Publications

Dr. Eells’ primary area of scholarship is psychotherapy research, particularly expertise in case formulation. He has also published on academic issues such as promotion and tenure and post-tenure review.

He is editor of the Handbook of Psychotherapy Case Formulation (Guilford Press), now in its second edition. He is an advisory editor for the journals Psychotherapy Research and Pragmatic Case Studies in Psychotherapy.
