March 18, 2025 (LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – The University of Louisville (UofL) School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics matched with outstanding candidates for its three 2025-26 Child Clinical and Pediatric Psychology Internship positions. The new interns include Janie Contreras-Muñoz from Baylor University School Psychology PhD program in Waco, Texas, Shannon Cunningham from Pacific University Clinical Psychology PsyD Program in Forest Grove, Oregon, and Jacqueline Sullivan from the University of Tennessee Clinical PhD Program in Knoxville. They will join the program at the UofL School of Medicine and Norton Children’s on July 1.

“We are thrilled to welcome Janie, Shannon, and Jackie to the program. They each bring unique perspectives, research interests, and a passion for working with children and families in a clinical setting,” said Dr. Kristie Vail Schultz, Internship Program Director of Training. “Their diverse experiences will undoubtedly enrich the training environment and contribute to the continued excellence of our program.”

Janie Contreras-Muñoz, a first-generation college student, holds a MA in educational psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS in psychology from Baylor. Shannon Cunningham holds a MA in mental health counseling from Boston College and a BA in psychology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her research addresses the impact of pediatric headaches on youth and families, especially parent psychosocial functioning and behavioral responses to children’s pain. Cunningham has clinical experience working with multidisciplinary teams at Randall Children’s Hospital and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Oregon, and she is invested in providing equitable and holistic healthcare to children.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Sullivan earned her MA in clinical psychology from Columbia University and her BA in psychology from the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on understanding how early childhood experiences and individual factors impact socio-emotional and psychopathology development. Sullivan also focuses on factors associated with anxiety and depression and how internalizing disorder development may relate to impulsive or emotion-avoidant behaviors. She is invested in the missions of clinical care, research, and teaching within the field.

The Department’s current 2024-25 interns, Sofia Davie, Christian Ledet and McKenzie Martin, have all accepted fellowships in pediatric psychology for the upcoming academic year.
