Nancy Farmer

Administrative Assistant and Fellowship Coordinator, Division of Pediatric Forensic Medicine

How long have you worked in Pediatrics?   17 years

What is your favorite thing about your job?

Working with amazing people. I am lucky enough to work with two board certified child abuse pediatricians (there are only 4 in the state), six amazing forensic nurses, and a terrific Adminv. Asst. who taught me everything I know about running the office.  I am constantly inspired by watching these people go over-and-above on a daily basis to help abused children. In completing medical exams, creating and offering trainings and talks throughout the state, and through our day to day interactions with the justice system, law enforcement, medical personnel, and CPS, I feel we are really making a difference in the lives of abused children.

What is your hometown? Louisville KY

What is your favorite movie? I’m a “born too late” hippie.  My fav movie/musical is Hair.  I think the only movie I’ve seen more times than Hair is the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Tell us about your family: I have a wonderful husband, Mike, who I’ve been married to for over 30 years.  I have a beautiful and smart daughter, Jessica (age 27) and an amazing son, Michael (age 23).

Do you have pets?  I am crazy about dogs and have always had one. Currently, I have a beagle/bloodhound mix named Jojo (almost 15 years!), a basset hound named Max (12 years), and a big ole bundle of love goofy newfy named Hank (2 years).

What are you doing, where are you going, for your next vacation? With the exception of last summer, we have gone to Sanibel Island every year since 2002. It’s our home away from home.  We’re going in July this year and taking our kids’ significant others.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to be a teacher, but I believe you are led to right where you need to be.

What is one of your proudest accomplishments? Never turning a blind eye to someone who needs help.

What is your favorite quote? When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves” Viktor Frankl

What was your first job? I was one of those annoying telephone survey takers that always call you during dinnertime.

What is your favorite ice cream? Baskin Robbins Chocolate Chip.  Yum!
