The UofL Health Podiatric Residency Program is a Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) approved Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program with Reconstructive Rearfoot/ankle surgery designed to develop the abilities and values necessary to provide surgical and medical care of the foot and ankle. The educational process is designed to develop comprehensive working knowledge and skills as a clinician, surgeon, researcher, educator, manager and humanitarian. This residency program is resource-based, competency driven and assessment-validated and provides training resources that facilitates the resident’s sequential and progressive achievements in specific competencies.

Directed by Timothy C. Ford, DPM, the program provides leading edge treatment and resources in the field of foot and ankle pathology for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It also serves as a resource for the general medical community in complex disorders of the foot and ankle. The program offers much needed research in diseases and disorders of the foot and ankle.

The UofL Health Podiatric Residency Program focuses on several key areas that help the resident to become skilled in the practice of podiatric surgery. These areas include:

Clinic

To develop competence in the clinical science and art of Podiatric medicine and surgery, including the skills of evaluation, assessment, consultation, communication and treatment.

Surgery

To develop the ability and confidence to completely execute the procedures, techniques and skills necessary to perform foot and ankle surgery.

Research

To produce and individually be capable of reviewing, analyzing and utilizing the medical literature and current research techniques to contribute to the existing medical literature.

Education

To acquire and develop knowledge and skills which will enable him/her to share concepts, techniques and experience through literature and practice demonstration.

Management

To gain exposure and experience in patient rapport and interaction. To develop basic skills management in an office and clinic setting.

Humanitarian

To instill in the resident the leadership, compassion, humility and dedication necessary for the well being of the patient.

Facilities

Residents will train at UofL Health - University Louisville Hospital, UofL Jewish Hospital, UofL Mary & Elizabeth, UofL Frazier Institute, UofL Medical Center South, UofL Peace Hospital & UofL Medical Center East.
