Application Process
This program seeks graduates who demonstrate a high level of interest/engagement in biomedical research but are not ready to apply to a PhD program.
Application submissions will open on December 15, 2023. Application review is rolling and will begin March 15 until all positions are filled, or the May 5 deadline is reached.
Participants will be asked to accept /decline our offer within a specified time.
The 2024-2025 cohort runs from June 2nd, 2025 to May 31st, 2026
There is no fee associated with the application.
- Participants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents.
- Participants must be recent baccalaureate graduates from an accredited U.S. University (within the last 36 months) in the biomedical or behavioral sciences. Students planning to graduate in the current Spring semester can apply but admission will be contingent on graduation.
- This Program is open to all eligible applicants regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age. Participants from underrepresented groups in STEM as defined by the National Institutes of Health are encouraged to apply. This includes individuals from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups (African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives/Native Hawaiians, and citizens of the U.S. Pacific Islands), individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds (socially, culturally, economically, or educationally).
Participants should complete the online application which includes:
- Curriculum Vitae/Resumé,
- Undergraduate transcripts (official transcripts will be required if accepted). Applicants with a GPA of 3.0 are preferred but exceptions will be considered depending on the rest of the application (GPA<2.5 will not be considered).
- A summary of research experiences, if any,
- A personal statement that describes:
- 1) Career goals and how participation in the UL-BIOMED-PREP program will assist them in meeting those goals
- 2) Their commitment to biomedical research
- 3) How their experiences have helped participants overcome an obstacle in their personal or professional life
- 4) How the applicant advances the mission of this NIH-funded program, i.e., promoting a scientific workforce from diverse backgrounds.
- 5) Selection of 4 potential mentors from the list
- Identification of two individuals who can provide letters of recommendation. Two letters of recommendation are required.
