Family Medicine Residency - Owensboro
Welcome to the University of Louisville Owensboro Family Medicine Residency Program. We are located in Owensboro, Kentucky, the home of the International Bar-B-Q Festival, ROMP Bluegrass Roots and Branches Festival, Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Friday After 5, Health Park and River Park Center. Our program is set to begin in July 2020.
We offer an unopposed Family Medicine training program in a modern community hospital that serves twelve counties in western Kentucky and two counties in southern Indiana Open on 1, 2013, the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital offers a new era of healthcare and wellness for the region.
On average, the hospital delivered 1,900 babies, performed 200 open-heart procedures, 600 hip and knee replacements, 65,000 Emergency Department visits, and 1.2 million lab tests. The hospital is licensed to operate 477 beds, 30 transitional care beds, including a Level III NICU a making Owensboro Health Regional Hospital one of the largest in Western Kentucky.
The majority of the rotations will be at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and its outpatient facility and private community physician offices, local nursing home and Daviess county health department. There is one away rotation at Louisville Norton Children’s Hospital during PGY-1 academic year for inpatient pediatrics. The program is approved by the ACGME for 6 residents per year for a total of 18 residents. Residents see their continuity patients at our newly renovated East Parrish Family Medicine Practice Location.
Most rotations are four weeks in length with longitudinal requirements in maternity care, nursing home medicine. Our didactics occur on Thursday afternoons and Grand Rounds are at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital on Friday at noon.
Our faculty is committed to providing high-quality teaching with more than 50 years of clinical experience and led by the program director that has more than 20 years of academic experience. The majority of Owensboro Health Physician Group will be actively involved with resident training. We have an amazing facility to train residents in a supportive environment to help you reach your final lifelong goal.
