Community Engagement Fall 2019
Facilities, feedback and funding
For nearly two decades, the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN) administered at UofL has been helping scientists at institutions throughout the state get their foot in the door of biomedical research. A five-year, $18.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health awarded earlier this year will continue and enhance the work of KBRIN, the state’s Institutional Development Award (IDeA). Nigel Cooper, PhD, is director of KBRIN, based at UofL.
UofL Sponsors program at Kentucky Science Center
During a follow-up Research!Louisville event, UofL sponsored a program for 120 students in 7th through 12th grade interested in alternative science careers. Through a collaborative effort by UofL, the Greater Louisville Medical Society and the Louisville Women in Medicine and Science (L-WIMS), students participated in a variety of health-sciences sessions at the Kentucky Science Center.
Bridges to Baccalaureate Program
A new initiative called the UofL Bridges to Baccalaureate program will provide a pipeline of support and mentoring for underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students enrolled in two-year science degree programs at Jefferson Community and Technical College.
