Perioperative UltraSound and Echocardiography Workshop - May 14, 2016

This one-day course provides participants with practical knowledge and skills on perioperative use of ultrasound to solve daily practical and clinical challenges. This unique ultrasound workshop incorporates extensive hands-on scanning with live models, state-of-the-art TEE simulator mannequin and inanimate phantoms.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:

● Acquire skills necessary for obtaining TEE standard views by manipulating the transducer of this state-of-the-art simulator from Heartworks (visit: www.heartworks.me.uk);
● Identify normal cardiac anatomy;
● Learn how to do a quick, focused TTE at bedside to exclude major cardiac pathology in patients with minimal preoperative testing;
● Master ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques in upper, lower limbs and trunk;
● Learn the use of real-time U/S to guide venous (central/peripheral) and arterial line placement;
● Practice needle visualization technique on inanimate phantom.
