Biorepository

The mission of the Brown Cancer Center Biorepository (BCCB), a unit of the University of Louisville Clinical Trials Program,is to support the development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics for cancer by obtaining and providing high quality human specimens and data to cancer researchers.

The BCCB facilitates collections and distributions of episodic and longitudinal, solid, and fluid specimens and applicable clinical data from consented subjects. The BCCB consents patients under a master protocol at several sites, including, BCC, ULH, UofL MCNE, and Jewish Hospital Downtown. Collections/distributions are prioritized in the following order: 1) local researchers’ specimen-use protocols 2) commercial specimen requests 3) banking.

The BCCB bank contains de-identified human whole blood, plasma, serum, urine, fresh-frozen tissue and FFPE with corresponding clinical information from a wide variety of cancers.

Accessing Biospecimens:

  • Investigators wishing to obtain specimens, either prospectively or retrospectively, can put in a request by contacting the Biorepository Manager, Melissa Hall at
  • Requests are reviewed by a Utilization Committee comprised of oncology physicians and researchers from various disciplines.
