What made you want to serve your country?
I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself and feel like I was truly making a difference with my career. As a lawyer in the military, I will be able to help people who wouldn’t normally be able to afford legal assistance while also representing the Air Force and furthering their mission.
What are you most proud of as a member of the service?
I am proud of how much I have been able to grow in my training. As someone who does not come from a military family or have any military background, I had a lot to learn. However, I have been able to grow as both a leader and a follower, and I am excited to put those skills to use upon commissioning in May.
Why do you want to be a lawyer?
Though it may seem like a simple answer, I want to be a lawyer because I want to help others. I came into law school wanting to pursue a career in public service to help those who would not normally receive legal assistance. I hope that, through my public service, I will be able to change the negative public image that many have of lawyers.
What do you like most about Brandeis?
I love that Brandeis is such a welcoming school. From what I have heard about other law schools across the country, ours is much more diverse, inviting, and most professors are willing to put in extra time to help and make sure you, as an individual, understand the content being taught.
In five years, I want to be...
A lawyer!
How have you changed since you started law school?
Throughout these three years my mindset has changed completely. I approach life with a “lawyer brain” and find that I am able to think more logically and critically in all situations, legal and non-legal. I have also developed a greater appreciation for my friends and family because of how stressful and busy law school has been.
What would you tell a 1L about law school and/or life?
My advice for a 1L would be to study hard but don’t make it your entire life. Focus on finding time to do things you enjoy, spend time with your loved ones, and prioritize self-care. Law school may seem stressful and daunting but enjoy the time you have before you enter your career and have less time for those enjoyable moments.
How do you cope when times are challenging?
To cope with challenging times, I usually reach out to friends and family to vent and destress. I also try to do something that I enjoy like going to the gym, reading a good book, or getting outdoors.
What is your favorite quote?
"Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill
