“Academic Training,” is the name used by the Department of State for certain types of study-related employment for students in J status. It describes the conditions that have to be met in order to qualify for “Academic Training” and how to apply.
An F-1 student who is requesting to change from one educational level to another or a J-1 student requesting a matriculation, must complete this request.
If applying to change your nonimmigrant status while in the U.S., submit this request to obtain an Initial Attendance-Change of Status Form I-20.
As soon as you arrive at UofL, you must submit the following documents: Visa, I-94, and update your current local address. Click on Immigration Check-In under the Student Request tab on your Terra Dotta dashboard.
F-1 or J-1 students requesting that their spouse or children join them should complete this request.
Students who need a letter for good standing, letter of support, driver's license or a letter inviting family members.
Students requesting a waiver from a meal plan must complete the form and meet the criteria.
When you receive employment on your OPT, you must submit your OPT Employer Report. Submit this request every time you update your address, change employers, or have multiple employers. You will be issued a new Form I-20 with every new employment.
If you are not able to finish your degree program by the end date noted on your Form I-20 (F-1) or DS-2019 (J-1), you can request an extension of your program. The length of time allowed for an extension is based on the recommendation of your academic advisor.
If you plan to transfer from the University of Louisville to another institution in the U.S., you must have your SEVIS record electronically submitted to the new school. Upon receipt of Letter of Admissions from your new school, we will transfer your SEVIS record, which will grant the new school access to your record.
