Faculty Award Opportunities

U.S. Professor of the Year Award Program

Due: Last week of April

Amount: $5,000 and an all-expense paid trip (airfare, meals, and two nights' hotel accommodations) for the winner, one guest and a current or former student to Washington, D.C., for the November awards celebration.

This award goes to the most outstanding undergraduate instructors in the country—those who excel in teaching and positively influence the lives and careers of students. Sponsored by Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, it is the only national program to recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring.

Eligibility: All undergraduate teachers in the United States, of any academic rank at any type of undergraduate institution, are eligible for the award.

Acorn

Due: Last week of July

This award goes to outstanding teachers at Kentucky’s public or independent colleges and universities and includes an honorarium. Two awards will be presented – one to a faculty member from a four-year institution and one to a faculty member from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Eligibility: The presidents’ offices of Kentucky’s colleges and universities will coordinate the nomination process for faculty on their campuses. Recipients must attend the award ceremony in September in order to be eligible.

Innovations in Technology Award for Teaching and Learning

Due: January mid-month

Amount: 4 awards of $2,000, 3 awards of $1,000

Recognize and reward HSC individuals/groups who had utilized technology to enhance teaching and learning or had served as mentors or trainers to HSC faculty/students seeking to enhance their teaching/learning through technology Promote an HSC culture that valued the role of technology in teaching and learning and encouraged creative, innovative use of technology to support that value.

Eligibility: All U of L university faculty are eligible, and they may apply as individuals or as leaders of a team. Faculty who have used technology that significantly improved teaching and/or learning are strongly encouraged to apply.
