Community Engagement

Addressing the needs and interests of our diverse communities locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.

Central High School

The University of Louisville has a number of programs with Central High School as part of its commitment to the school and the west Louisville community.  There are a few of the programs currently in place led by various academic units within the university.

Central High School Law and Government Magnet Program Partnership - Through the Central Law and Government magnet program, students at Central High School have been provided a variety of enrichment activities - attending moot court competitions and speaker events, visiting the law school for a day, and participating in writing competitions to primarily "spark the interest" of students in becoming lawyers.

Speed School of Engineering Maker Space - Goal of the project is to increase awareness of science, technology, engineering, and math or STEM fields, to persuade underrepresented students to consider pursuing those disciplines.

Dual Credit Courses - Students may take English 101 and 102 through the Department of English while the College of Business offers a dual credit course, Introduction to Business Management 101.  Dual credit courses allow the students to develop a college transcript while still in high school and the students gain experience with college curriculum and instructional methods.
