Pathways to Possibility: A Collaborative Approach to Healthcare Workforce Development

This collaborative initiative between UofL’s School of Nursing and health pathway programs in local public schools introduces middle and high school students to nursing careers through immersive experiences. Students engage in hands-on laboratory and simulation skills experiences, earn CPR certification, and interact directly with admission counselors, nursing faculty, and current nursing students. This program provides guidance on admission and academic requirements, application processes, and career trajectories in nursing.

Early outcomes indicate increased interest in healthcare professions and an improved understanding of nursing education requirements. This model demonstrates the value of academic partnerships in developing healthcare professionals, addressing workforce needs, and engaging underrepresented students.
