In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, a number of UofL representatives have stepped up to help those affected the most.
This was the second year for the Nonprofit Fair, hosted by the Honors Student Council's service committee.
UofL's Human Rights Advocacy Program has been recognized as an outstanding model of community engagement. The program, established in 2014 by the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, works to advance the rights of immigrants, refugees and noncitizens through scholarship and engagement.
Dan Hall, UofL’s vice president for the Office of Community Engagement, joined the university in the fall of 1985 after spending seven years in Washington, DC, working on Capitol Hill with Louisville Congressman Ron Mazzoli. Read more

Each year during Santa’s busy season, UofL employees and students step up their philanthropic efforts to help those in need throughout the community, essentially taking on the role of elves.

2015 Outstanding Community Engagement Award winners announced
UofL joined 239 colleges and universities throughout the United States in being named 2015 Carnegie Community Engagement universities.
The University of Louisville’s College of Education and Human Development has received a $5 million gift from the Mary K. Oxley Foundation to boost teacher preparedness, retention and professional development at five Louisville-area schools.
The audience of administrators, students, graduates and staff members filled Chao Auditorium on Nov. 13 for the celebration: The year 2014 marked 50 years since Upward Bound was created by President Lyndon B. Johnson as part of his war on poverty and became the foundation of a group of federally funded college opportunity programs known collectively as TRIO.

A student leading the first campus effort to build a Habitat for Humanities home. A professor who created a social group for people with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers. A staff member who helped expand facilities for Marine cadets at Jeffersontown High School. And a West Louisville community center working with faculty and students in UofL's nursing, education, social work and music schools to improve the quality of life for families.
All four are 2014 winners of UofL Community Engagement Awards, an honor presented each fall to those who set an outstanding example of UofL's close relationship with its community. Each honoree receives a cash award of $2,500 and a crystal plaque.
