Application Timeline

Complete Pre-Med Curriculum

Subject (# of Semesters)

  • General Biology with labs (2)
  • General Inorganic Chemistry with labs (2)
  • General Organic Chemistry with labs (2)
  • General Physics with labs (2)
  • English (2)
  • Calculus (1) or other college mathematics (2)

Take Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)

  • As of 2007, test given 22 times between January and September
  • The MCAT should preferably be taken during the 2nd semester of the applicant's junior year, or the summer term immediately thereafter.
  • Have scores sent to school(s) of choice

Complete American  Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) Materials

  • Most applicants apply the summer before their Senior year in college.
  • Applications are taken June 1 - October 15.
  • Applications are forwarded to AMCAS participating schools (of your choice)
  • Early Decision - Applications taken June 1 - August 1. 

Upon receipt of the AMCAS application, School of Medicine Admissions Office requires a secondary application from qualified applicants:

  • $75 non-refundable application fee
  • Pre-med Advisory Committee report or 3 letters of recommendation from your professors
  • A recent photo approximately 2" x 2"
  • Deadline for receipt of secondary application is December 31. 

Admissions Interview

  • Selected applicants are interviewed by two members of the Admissions Committee
  • Applicants are accepted, tabled or denied until the class is filled 

Announcements

AMCAS applications are available on-line via the AMCAS web site. Deadline to apply to the University of Louisville School of Medicine is October 15th. The University of Louisville's School of Medicine Secondary Application deadline is Dec. 31st.
