Have you considered becoming a physician, but thought it was too late to change careers?Our structured two-year pre-med preparation program is specifically designed for career changers and offers assured admission to the University of Louisville School of Medicine!

If you're a career changer with a Bachelor's degree or about to graduate and desire to become a physician but lack the pre-med science course work for medical school admission; this program may be for you! Let our program help you become the physician you always wanted to be!

RECORD ENHANCING PROGRAM

Are you a pre-med college graduate who needs to improve your grade point average and/or MCAT score to be more competitive for medical school? Our new record enhancing program offers two tracks: Track one offers the opportunity to complete or retake pre-med required courses, take upper level science classes, receive MCAT preparation, tutoring and supplemental instruction to improve your learning strategies and test taking skills.

Track two offers the one year non-thesis M.S. in Physiology to further improve your credentials at the graduate level while continuing to receive support from our program every step of the way. Accepted students must participate in track one in order to be considered for track two. Students who qualify and wish to go directly into the M.S. in Physiology Pre-healthcare concentration Program may click here and proceed with applying through the graduate school.

Eligiblity Requirements

Citizenship: U.S. citizen or permanent resident. 
Degree: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree from an accredited U.S. institution.
Target Audience:
  • Career Changers:
    • Students with a bachelor’s degree who have completed no more than 12 credit hours in pre-med level biology, chemistry, and physics (including labs).
    • Individuals transitioning into the medical field who lack significant foundational pre-med coursework
  •  Record Enhancers: 
    • Individuals who have completed significant pre-med coursework (13 or more credit hours) but seek to improve their qualifications.
    • Applicants looking to enhance their GPA, prepare for the MCAT, or pursue a one-year non-thesis M.S. in Physiology.
Pre-Med Science Coursework:
  • Career Changers: 0-12 credit hours in pre-med biology, chemistry, or physics
  • Record Enhancers: more than 12 credit hours of pre-med coursework, or completed MCAT
.GPA:
  • Career Changers: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 (slightly lower may still apply, but less competitive)..
  • Record Enhancers:  Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.9.
Test Scores: One standardized test score (ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, or LSAT). No expiration on scores.
  • Test Score: Submit one qualifying standardized test score.
  • Recommendation Letters: Two letters of recommendation, recommenders may include professors/instructors, advisors, mentors, supervisors, colleagues, health professionals you've shadowed or met with, volunteer coordinators, etc. Anyone who can speak about you academically, professionally or personally (e.g., volunteer, community member, mentee, etc. Family members are NOT recommended.
  • Resume/CV: Upload your current resume or CV.
  • Transcripts: Official transcripts from each U.S. college/university you have attended is required
  • Pre-written Essay Submissions:
    • Explain why you have chosen the University of Louisville Post-Bac Pre-Med Program and identify specific aspects of the program that align with your goals and will support your success.
    • Discuss your aspirations to become a physician. Include the personal and professional attributes that make you well-suited for a career in medicine.Special
    • Circumstances Essay (Optional) Share any unique or challenging circumstances you would like the committee to consider. These may include academic, professional, or personal obstacles you have faced and how you overcame them.

🛠 Steps to Complete Your Application

Before you begin, please ensure you have all the required documents and information prepared to streamline the application process.

📌 Important Notes:
  • This application allows you to leave and return later (using the same browser and device), but completing it in one sitting is recommended.
  • Progress is saved via cookies for up to 1 week. After this time, your responses will be recorded as-is, requiring you to restart if incomplete.
  • Be cautious on shared or public devices, as progress is saved based on the browser’s cookies.
  • For the best experience, use a computer. Some devices may encounter technical issues. Example: Ensure iPads are in portrait orientation for full upload page access.

Step 1. Prepare Your Documents to be Uploaded:

Ensure you have the following documents ready. Save each file separately, clearly labeled, and in PDF or Word format for easy upload.

      • Resume/CV: No word or page limit. Highlight academic, professional, and volunteer experiences, along with awards or recognitions.
      • Program Alignment Essay: (1000 words max) Explain why you chose this program and its alignment with your goals.
      • Physician Attributes Essay: (1000 words max) Share your aspirations to become a physician and your suitability for the field.
      • Special Circumstances Essay (Optional): (1000 words max) Describe unique or challenging circumstances you wish the committee to consider.
      • Test Scores: Upload unofficial copies or screenshots of your scores from MCAT, GRE, SAT, ACT, GMAT, or LSAT.

💡 Submission Tips:

  • Use clear file names (e.g., “JohnDoe_Resume.pdf”).
  • Double-check for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.

Step 2. Complete the Online Application

Prepare to answer questions about your academic background and test scores:

  • Degree Information: Include type, major/minor, GPA, institution name/location, and graduation year.
  • Test Scores: Provide detailed score breakdowns (e.g., MCAT, GRE).

Step 3. Submit Recommender Information

Provide contact details for two recommenders:

      • Title, first and last name.
      • Job title/position and organization.
      • Relationship to the applicant.
      • Email and phone number.

Step 4. Review and Submit

Double-check all sections of your application before submitting.
