Program Staff

 Tonia D. Thomas serves as the Program Director and Advisor for this program. She is a Louisville native and a graduate of the University of Louisville with a B.S. in Sociology. She has worked for the University of Louisville School of Medicine since March 1994.  Her previous positions have been in the Medical School Office of Admissions (1994-1996) and the Office for Minority and Rural Affairs (1996-2008) and the Health Sciences Center Campus Office of Diversity and Inclusion (2008 - present).

Tonia is affiliated with both campuses, Belknap and the Health Sciences Center. She has worked collaboratively with staff, faculty and administrators over the years. She is committed to preparing pre-medical students for the competitive medical school application process and helping them to successfully matriculate into medical school.  She can be reached at or call 502-852-2712.  Her office is located on the U of L Belknap Campus in Gardiner Hall, College of Arts & Sciences on the lower level in Suite LL08. Shonna Wagner serves as the Program Coordinator for this program and the Summer Health Professions Education Program for rising sophomores and juniors in college. She is a member of the Program Advisory Committee for this program.  Shonna has worked for the University of Louisville since August 2013.  In addition to her position, she is a part-time student at the university.
