FES Testing Center

We are an FES Testing Center

The SAGES Fundamentals of Endoscopic SurgeryTM (FES) program was designed for medical and surgical residents, fellows, practicing general surgeons, gastroenterologists, and other physicians to learn and test basic endoscopic skills required to form a foundation in the practice of flexible endoscopy.

FES is a comprehensive educational and assessment tool designed to teach and evaluate the fundamental knowledge, clinical judgment and technical skills required in the performance of basic gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopic surgery (endoscopy). Our goal is to provide participants with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of endoscopic surgery in a consistent, scientifically accepted format, and to test cognitive and technical skills – all with the goal of improving the quality of patient care. The educational module consists of a web-based multimedia presentation of didactic content. The FES assessment includes two components, a computer-based cognitive assessment and a performance-based manual skills assessment which is performed on a virtual reality simulator, the GI Mentor II, GI Bronch Mentor or GI Mentor Express, all proprietary pieces of hardware developed by 3D Systems – Simbionix.

The Paris Simulation Center has been approved as an FES Test Center.  An FES proctor is available by appointment. First time test takers and cognitive re-test takers must register on-line for the FES exam. Manual skills re-test takers must contact the Test Center directly to schedule their exam. You are highly encouraged to come in and practice beforehand. Those who do not practice before they test have a very high failure rate.
