What I like about our program: I like that Louisville Psychiatry offers diverse training opportunities for residents with several inpatient psychiatric units among its affiliated hospitals, dedicated emergency psychiatric services at ULH, exposure to the use of therapeutic ECT, and several fantastic fellowship opportunities. UofL is also on the front lines of the opioid crisis, and between the C&L services and outpatient Suboxone clinic, I know I will emerge from my training feeling confident in my ability to help combat this crisis.
Beyond training opportunities, I have also had the pleasure of working with many members of the Department of Psychiatry during my time as a UofL medical student. All of my experiences with the department have impressed upon just how kind, interesting, and fun the members of UofL Psychiatry are, and I’m thrilled to be joining their ranks.
What I like about Louisville: For me, Louisville is a “Goldilocks” city; not too big and not too small. I’ve never felt like I’m being swallowed up in the impersonal anonymity of a huge city. Of course that doesn’t mean Louisville is lacking when it comes to leisure activities. This is definitely a foodie town, and even after living here for the past four years, there are incredible restaurants I haven’t had the chance to try. Louisville also has an awesome music scene with big acts coming to the YUM Center, as well as dozens of smaller venues for live music scattered throughout the city. The city also boasts a new USL soccer team, several large parks, and a thriving craft beer scene.
