June 28, 2020 - Norton Healthcare EPIC upgrade

EPIC Upgrade Training Information

The next Epic upgrade (Epic version November 2019) for Norton Healthcare will take place on June 28, 2020. This notice provides you with information about resources available to help you and your staff prepare for the upcoming changes.

Classroom training is NOT required for this upgrade, but there is a dramatic shift from the Workspace Headers staff use today, to the new Storyboard view, and all staff will need time to develop confidence about where things have moved and how they look.   On June 7, upgrade materials will be available on the Learning Home Dashboard (LHD) and UPG, the training environment used for upgrade practice, will be launched.  A video demonstration of Storyboard is available on the LHD today.

STEPS TO PREPARE FOR THE UPGRADE:

 1. Watch the Storyboard video available today on the Learning Home Dashboard in Epic. (LHD is the Rocket icon Activity tab).

 2. Beginning June 7 - open the LHD (ROCKET ICON) from Epic to review Upgrade materials.

As a reminder,

  • Each LHD is tailored to the specific audience it serves. This is intended to ensure that every Epic user stays up-to-date with the latest and most relevant information for their Epic role.  If you have more than one role in Epic, you will have more than one LHD.
  • Learning Homes are not linked to Norton’s LMS.  When a change in Epic requires training, course completions will be tracked separately in the LMS and the reference materials used in the class will be made available on the LHD.

 3. Beginning June 7 - open UPG from MY RESOURCES to see the changes and practice using Storyboard.

 As a reminder,

  • UPG is the Epic upgrade practice environment where staff can see what’s changed, document on fictitious patients and begin to gain confidence with how things work after the upgrade.
  • Access to UPG requires the use of a playground log in sheet; it cannot be accessed via a user’s Norton network ID.
  • Playground log in sheets can be found on the Learning Home Dashboard.

 4.  Time needed to prepare: I recommend allowing at least 45-60 minutes to explore the changes, practice, and understand what’s needed post upgrade to personalize Epic, but you know your staff best and as such, are best suited to determine the specific amount of time they’ll need.

 5.  Watch your email (closer to June 28) for instructions about the upgrade downtime process.

 Key Points:
