Education Efforts at UofL HSC
Health professional students, physicians-in-training, and their mentors are taught how to integrate the social and ethical aspects of medicine into everyday patient care, enhancing both outpatient and inpatient care at all UofL hospital and clinic facilities. Our current teaching venues include the ethics and humanities educational oversight of and/or collaboration with:
- The Interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Bioethics and Medical Humanities (established in 2007, with Dr. Doukas serving as Co-Director, with Philosophy Department Associate Professor Stephen Hanson, PhD
- Years 1-2 of UofL Medical School, in Introduction to Clinical Medicine I and II,
- Interdisciplinary Case Conferences
- Year 3 Ethics Rounds in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and OB/GYN clerkships
- Medical Humanities Selectives and Electives in History and Medicine, and Medical Narrative, Spirituality and Medicine, and Fine Arts and Medicine
- Periodic Case Conferences in the Family Medicine and Surgery Residencies
- Fellowship educational efforts in Palliative Care, Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and Audiology
- Undergraduate courses in Health Care Ethics
