Immigration law expert Professor Enid Trucios-Haynes shares insights on Supreme Court DACA decision
Professor Enid Trucios-Haynes, an expert in immigration law, shared her insights on the Supreme Court's June 18 decision blocking President Trump's attempt to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
The Court's 5-4 ruling does not mean that DACA will continue indefinitely.
"The Department of Homeland Security still has the authority to terminate the program, and the court acknowledged that," Trucios-Haynes told WDRB-TV.
She also spoke with Lexington's WTVQ.
"There are many fixes that are needed to make our immigration laws work today. That’s something that only Congress can really address in a thorough way,” she told that station.
Trucios-Haynes is a regular speaker on immigration law and is co-founder and co-director of Louisville Law's Brandeis Human Rights Advocacy Program. As part of that program, she leads monthly visits to the Boone County Jail Immigration Detention Center, where she and other volunteers conduct Know Your Rights trainings and intake interviews.
