Student Requests

Our office uses the Global Cardinal Portal to process student requests. Please see below the types of requests that are available to you in your portal.

To get to your request page in the portal, please sign in using your ULink information. You’ll then go to the third tab on your profile – “Student Requests.”

The requests available to you are based on your “stage” in the Global Cardinal Portal.

Immigration Check-In

Use this request if you’re a new international student with an Initial Form I-20 who has entered the United States. You will need to submit your Visa, I-94, and local address.

ISSS Letter Request

Use this request to receive one of the following letters: Family Member Invitation Letter (please provide the passports of your family members you wish to invite and be specific about why you are inviting your family members to visit you in the United States.), Social Security Letter, Driver’s License Application

Travel Signature Request

Use this request if you plan to travel internationally and your travel signature on your I-20 has expired. Please see the Travel Page  for more information about travel signatures.

Financial Information Update for F-1 Students

Use this request if you have a significant change in your financial support since you requested your initial I-20. You will need to upload evidence of this updated funding. 

Add F-2 Dependent

Use this request if you would like to add dependent(s) to your I-20. You will need to upload their passport(s) and financial documentation. Each dependent you add will cost $7,500. 

Dependent Information Update

Use this request if your F-2 dependent needs their information changed. 

Delete Dependent

Use this request if you would like to remove a dependent from your I-20. (This could be due to a change of status for your dependent, they plan to return home, etc.) 

Reduced Course Load

Use this request if you are eligible for a Reduced Course Load (RCL). For more information about what an RCL is, please visit the Regulations Page. (hyperlink to the maintaining status page.) 

Contact Information/Demographic Update

Use this request if you have changed your contact information, such as your address or phone number. Please keep in mind that you must inform our office within 10 days of an address change. 

F-1 SEVIS Record Transfer Out

Use this request if you plan to attend another SEVP-certified institution in the United States. Please visit the Regulations page for more information about transferring out from the University of Louisville. 

Program Extension Request

Use this request if you need to extend your program past the end date on your current I-20. This request must be made prior to the program end date on your I-20. Your academic advisor/department head must approve your request for a program extension. 

OPT Recommendation Request

 Please visit our page on OPT for more information. (insert hyperlink). The earliest you can request an OPT recommendation from our office is 90 days prior to your program end date on your I-20.  

OPT Employer Report

Use this request when you need to update your employment/notify our office of your updated employment on OPT. (STEM OPT changes cannot be done through this request.) Please note that you must update your employment changes in the SEVP portal within 10 days of the change. 

STEM OPT Extension Request

Use this request if you would like a STEM OPT extension recommendation. Please visit our page on OPT for more information. The earliest you can request a STEM OPT Extension recommendation from our office is 90 days prior to your post-completion OPT end date. 

CPT Request

Use this request if you would like to request CPT. Please visit our page on CPT for more information. Please note that CPT is authorized on a semester-by-semester basis, so a CPT request must be submitted each semester you plan to engage in CPT.  

Change Education Level Request

Use this request if you are continuing your studies at the University of Louisville after you complete your initial degree and going into a different education level. For more information, please visit our Admissions page. (?)
