Educators have long been encouraged to pursue a PhD to advance their careers. However, there are several reasons, from financial constraints to career prospects, that may deter someone from continuing their education. The UofL College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) offers the Education Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction (Ed.S) degree as a solution.

The Ed.S degree bridges the gap for educators with a master’s degree who wish to continue their education but do not wish to pursue a doctorate. The program offers curriculum that equips graduates with the expertise needed for strong instructional leadership in schools including curriculum, leadership and coaching, data analysis and research methods, and one specialization area.

Justin McFadden, associate professor of science education and James Chisholm, associate professor of English education speak to the specialization areas and career options available for students who complete this degree.

As the education landscape continues to evolve, it's important to have programs like UofL's Ed.S degree that cater to the needs of educators who wish to continue their education but may not be interested in pursuing a doctoral degree. With the skills and knowledge gained from the Ed.S program, graduates can confidently take on leadership roles and make a positive impact on their schools and communities.
