Secondary Mathematics Content Pre-requisites

Students interested in teacher certification in Secondary Mathematics Education (grades 8-12) first complete a bachelor's degree with a major in Mathematics prior to entering the teacher certification program at the graduate level. Students must apply and be accepted into the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program in order to complete teacher certification. Please review the admission requirements for the MAT program at the "how to apply" tab: http://louisville.edu/education/degrees/mat-se.

Those students who do not complete a major in this content area must complete prerequisite courses as indicated below to be eligible for application to the program. These prerequisite courses may be taken in post-baccalaureate status through the University of Louisville or through another accredited institution upon approval of an Education Advisor. An overall 2.50 grade point average is required for certification. Applicants who have remaining prerequisite, content courses should have an official transcript evaluation prior to enrolling in those courses.
