Latin American Studies Unveils Tranquility Garden
The Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) program officially unveiled The Latin American and Latino Studies Tranquility Garden. The goal of this space is to allow students, faculty, and staff a beautiful place to sit down, have lunch, conduct meetings, or simply study.
Spring 2015 BFA Thesis Exhibitions
The Hite Art Institute is pleased to announce the opening of the Spring 2015 BFA Thesis Exhibitions at Schneider Hall Galleries and the Cressman Center for Visual Arts. The exhibitions will display artwork in a variety of mediums from those students graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Hite Art Institute.

If a tree falls in the woods, does Professor Margaret Carreiro hear it? Yes, she probably does. And that's a good thing for all of us! Prof. Carreiro specializes in urban and suburban ecology, and she has spent a large part of her career assisting cities in maintaining and often saving their urban forests. Not only does she perform academic research to understand ecological processes at work in urban environments, but she also takes a broader approach by applying her knowledge and collaborating with colleagues both inside and outside of the University to improve the quality of life for the community at large.
26th Annual Provost’s Awards for Exemplary Advising
The winners of the 26th Annual Provost’s Awards for Exemplary Advising are Luke Buckman (professional advisor and assistant director in the A&S Honors program) and Prof. Rhonda Buchanan (undergraduate faculty advisor and director of the Latin American and Latino Studies program).
Cards All In Scholarship Spotlight: Biology and Spanish Major Ethan Tomlinson
Ethan Tomlinson is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. He is a Cardinal Host, a Shadow Host, a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honors Society and is part of UofL Habitat for Humanity.
Nasby practices ‘green’ stage management
Charles Nasby, technical production manager for the department of theatre arts, plies his trade amid a jungle of lumber, welding materials and scraps from past stage sets. He builds scenery, handles building maintenance, helps out with lighting, sound and costumes – and mentors students while he does it.
4 A&S staff members receive President’s Outstanding Performance Award
Congratulations to our talented and dedicated staff members Luke Buckman (University Honors Program), Annelise Gray (English), Lori Cotter (A&S Dean’s Office), and Charles Nasby (Theatre Arts) for being among this year’s Outstanding Performance Award recipients.They each received a plaque and monetary award at an awards luncheon in their honor on Friday, January 30, 2015.
