The minutes of the meeting of October 26 were approved as distributed.
The following course actions were approved, effective Summer 2012.
Courses proposed for General Education must also be approved by the General Education Course Committee.
- JA 749: Advanced Statistical Analysis (new course)
- JA 750: Field Research (new course)
- JA 406: Victims and Victimization (new course)
- JA 440: Human Trafficking (new course)
- JA 505: International Terrorism (new course)
- JA 506: Crime Analysis (new course)
- JA 507: Crime Prevention (new course)
- JA 607: Law and Justice (new course)
- JA 611: Critical Issues in Corrections (new course)
- POLS 465: Chinese Culture (new course; GenEd CD1 credit)
The committee discussed the proposal for credit for alternative learning and agreed to the provisions that (1) would remove the limitation of 24 credit hours earned in this way which may be transferred from another institution and (2) would require the student to have completed 24 hours in residence at the sending institution for acceptance of this credit. The committee requested additional information on how the policy would control the granting of credit for “life experience” courses.
The committee reviewed the proposal for a B.A. in Latin American and Latino Studies and made a variety of recommendations for changes/clarifications of the degree requirements. The proposal was approved contingent on these changes. The committee strongly endorsed the creation of a dedicated faculty line in Latin American and Latino studies.
