The minutes of the meeting of November 9 were approved as distributed.
Discussion continued on the proposal from the ad hoc committee on language requirements. The committee learned that the General Education Course Committee does not expect to act on FREN 125, SPAN 125 and 201 (courses integral to the proposal) until its meeting of December 2. For this reason, the final proposal will not be presented to the Faculty Assembly until January.
Professor Beggan and the committee discussed the proposal from the Department of Sociology to change its requirements for admission to the major and for graduation and to renumber the introductory course to the major. Several questions were raised, which Professor Beggan will return to the department.
Professor Newton presented the proposal from the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences to raise the requirements for admission to the major and to change the contact time for PSCY 301 and 301 (adding an extra 50-minute recitation session). There was insufficient time remaining for the committee to fully discuss these proposals and action was deferred until the next meeting.
