CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES

April 16, 2002

The minutes of the meetings of March 19 and April 2 were approved as distributed.

Associate Dean Dietrich presented a proposal to change the grading in GEN 101: Modes of Inquiry from P/U to A-F, to be effective in Fall 02 if possible. The proposal carried with 3 for and 2 abstaining.

Eight courses in support of the Ph.D. in Humanities were approved, to be effective Fall 03: HUM 661, 662, 671, 672, 681, 682, 699, and 700.

HIST 380: Hollywood and History was tabled until a representative of the department could meet with the committee. The committee specifically had questions about the amount of class time given to viewing the films studied. It also wished to see a sample of the question sheets cited in the syllabus.

Deletes were approved for:

  • ART 108: Foundation Color
  • ART 207: Crafts
  • ART 231: Introduction to Ceramics
  • GEOS/PHYS 291: Meteorology Laboratory

A proposal for an accelerated B.S./M.S. in Biology was approved, pending minor revisions by the department. The department was asked to consider whether or not B.A. students could apply for the program. [As revised, the program guidelines do include B.A. students.]

A proposal for an accelerated B.A./B.S.-M.A. in Mathematics was approved, pending revisions by the department.

WR approval was granted for senior honors theses in those departments with a Thesis course number. Students must enroll for thesis hours to receive WR credit for the preparation of a thesis.

Changes were approved to the Linguistics concentration in the M.A. in Humanities.

Changes were approved to the Interdisciplinary M.A. The requirement that all departments or programs in which the student proposed to take more than 3 hours of graduate course work must offer degrees through the Graduate School was changed to state that at least two of the departments in which more than 3 hours of coursework was completed must offer programs through the Graduate School.
